fmp-design test

Here is another style i was trying out with using imagery with type and shapes, again i still feel as this doesn't look as good as i hope it would but it has improved as i feel more comfortable when using image with type instead of type alone.

fmp-design test one

These are double page spread designs for my book. With these designs i was going for a a futurist poetry/ Carson style, to be honest i don't like them a and don't think they look attractive and i don't think they would convince people to look.

icon-Clare Rojas

In one room all of Rojas work was hung up on like coat peg/hook, i liked this it was consistent and suited her style of illustrations.

Marinetti-Futurist poet

This genre of art suites my FMP. With it i can show or give some idea to the viewer how the lyrics are being said for example i can play with the scale of a word, this would represent how loud the word is being said.

FMP-doodle on the mac

At the moment I don't feel confident with using type in my design so i decided to just practice and this is my outcome.

Armin Hofmann

László Moholy-Nagy

I like this painting/illustration by Nagy. Even though it's simple i think the spacing and use of scale make the work look interesting.

FMP

I have changed my idea again for my fmp.

When listening to rap music at first people don't listen to the lyrics and instead are captured by the music behind it then this makes you like the lyrics because it goes with the song so much even if the lyrics are negative. I want to see if i can do this with type. I want to see if i can layout the lyrics in such a way that people will forget that the lyrics are negative because the design/layout looks so good.

I don't want my designs to look like hip hop. I want people who don't like hip hop to look at my designs.

FMP-The art of Bboying

I have a great interest and passion for the hip hop dance style “Bboying/Breakin.” The dance style developed in the Bronx in the 1970’s and then became well known in the 1980’s. When this happened I gained a commercial name which is Breakdancing.

As I am very passionate about this dance I would like to base my final major project on this dance style. Within my work I will be looking at how the dance started, the names of the moves and styles and try to show that bboying is an artistic dance and not just doing power moves to look good.

At the moment Britain is going through a street dance phase dues to shows such as Britain’s got talent and adverts. This is another reason why I think it’s a good idea to base my idea on bboyin, I would be able to compare my work with the commercial designs for these shows.

One of my main influences is Jean-Michel Basquiat. I like the way he involves his own lifestyle into his work and how he gained his own unique style from his heritage and culture. Another artist who has influence me is Ian Swift. I like how he mixed pop art with street art and I also like his collage work, they have a raw look and feel to them but at the same time still look stunning.

Outcome
For my final out come I will be producing a series of illustrations based on research taken from documentaries, interviews and clips about bboying. With these illustrations i want to capture the atmosphere and excitement when watching or actually breakin'. I want to show the training and dedication some bboy/bgirls put into the dance style. The illustrations will be presents in a book. I will also try to make a short film showing the same things of what my illustrations show.

Zine-Tag competition

This illustration is based on how people tag on respectable buildings with know care. In my eyes this is wrong, I understand that the people who tag want their name to be known but they need to respect these buildings.
