Zine-Public Enemy how to be gangsta for kids volume1

Another con illustration. With this illustration i am trying to show how some rappers are bad role models for their younger audience. This is not targeted at public enemy, i just chose them because they are a well known rap group and hip hop legends.

Zine-Jedward breakdance dvd

This is one of my con illustration for the hip hop element BBOYIN. The illustration is looking at how the commercial industry can take elements from hip hop to make their own financial gain, without showing or understanding the true roots of hip hop.

Zine

I have changed my idea for my zine. I am going make a series of illustrations based on the pros and cons for what could happen or is happening in the 4 elements of hip hop. The pro and con illustrations will have different styles to each other so it is clear which side the illustration belongs too. I will present my illustrations on a 305mm x 1,555mm double sided poster which will be placed into a vinyl L.P sleeve

This is a test for what i want my final animation to look like. My idea for it is based on the regeneration of Eastside Birmingham so i want to show how ideas of what it should be keep on changing and being re-considerd. I like how the objects are moving into the screen but i feel the pace is too slow and it needs audio.

Research-Swifty

I think these illustrations by Swifty are visually stunning and I like the way he has collaged into the letters. His work reminds me of Richard Hamilton- Just what is it thats makes today's homes so different, so appealing?

FMP-Exhibition-Homegrown The Story of uk hip hop

I thought the way they laid out this exhibition was really inspiring and it will help me out with my own exhibition. In Homegrown there was a small section about the birth of british b-boy with a short documentary, which i have found on youtube so i can re-watch it for research. I'm also going look into two photographers who's work was featured in the exhibition.

Reform-Illustration

For this set of illustrations i decided to take a modernism approach, so instead of making it all decorative, I kept it simple and just layered the original photos with a duotone.

Reform-Chosen object photos

I chose this building to be my object because it's old and being knocked down, this may be an intresting theme to use for my hybrid object.

FMP-Ideas-Hip Hop

I have three different ideas to based on hip hop so far.

  1. Make a series of illutrations showing how hip hop has changed today from what it used to be, which will be titeld 'the history of hip hop'
  2. Make a series of illutrations using thethe four main elements of hip hop: Djing, B-boying, Mcing and Graffiti.
  3. Base my work on the art of B-boying and make a short video and some illustrations about it.

FMP-Influences- Can't Stop Won't Stop A history of the hip hop Generation by Jeff Chang

I've recently brought this book so i can gain more knowledge of the hip hop culture. The introduction of the book was by Dj Kool Herc who is considered the founder of hip hop. He talks about what hip hop says to him, which is ''come as you are'' and it's about connecting one to one, this is the reason why it has universal appeal.

FMP-Artist Research- Jean-Michel Basquiat

I like how Basquiat looks at his heritage, cultural identity and poetry in his artwork, like his style of painting came from the ' African Diaspora'.

FMP-Artist Research- Richt

I like how Richt uses organic shapes to make up his characters face.

FMP-Artist Research- Keith Harwing

Keith Harwing uses alot of religous refferences in his artwork to represent his sexuality, he may do this to show how much he belives it's right and that it is ok to be homosexual.

FMP-Artist Research- Mario Wagner

I like the cut and paste style Mario uses, It reminds me of russian constructivism. it allows him to make things look more abstract for example in one of his pictures he uses some lips alone instead of having a face.
